The compilation, analysis and evaluation of historical data relating to a mineral exploration target is the first step when exploring in a new area. As affordable and user-friendly GIS software has only become widely available relatively recently, data collected by previous operators on a project may only be available as hard-copy maps, tables, sketches and reports. In order for the data to be evaluated fully, it may be necessary to process the data in different software packages (GIS, 3D resource modelling, financial modeling, etc.), send some or all of the data to a distal office or consultant by email, or plot maps showing different combinations of data at different scales.
